Text messages

Click texts your customers on your behalf. Mostly you never think about it, but when a customer says their message never arrived, this is where you look.

What gets sent, and when

When someone buys for the first time, or buys again after their bundle expired, they get their username and password.

When someone tops up before expiry, they get a confirmation with their new end time, and deliberately no password. They already have one, and repeating it in a second message only puts it somewhere else it can be read.

That is it. Click does not send marketing, and never texts your customers anything you did not cause.

SMS Logs

SMS Logs lists every message: who it went to, which message it was, whether it was sent or failed, and when. Filter by date or by status.

If a customer says nothing arrived, check here first. There are only two answers, and they lead different places:

  • Sent: the message left Click and reached the network. The problem is at their end: a full inbox, a handset that was off, a number that has moved network. Read them the password instead; it works identically.
  • Failed: it never went. The reason is on the record. Usually the number was mistyped at purchase, in which case they need to buy again with the right one.

SMS Templates

Under SMS Templates are the two messages Click sends your customers, and only those two. There is nothing to create and nothing to delete: these are the messages that actually go out, so the page shows you the real thing rather than a library of drafts.

New purchase goes to someone buying for the first time, or buying again after their bundle expired. It carries the password, so it is the message that gets them online. It can use {username}, {password}, {package_name} and {expires_at}.

Extra time (top-up) goes to someone adding time before their bundle expires. They keep the login they already have, so it deliberately carries no password. It can use {username}, {package_name} and {expires_at}.

Edit wording lets you rewrite either one in your own words, or in Swahili. Keep the placeholders in braces: Click swaps those for the customer's real details as it sends. Anything else you type is sent exactly as written, so keep it short, because a long message is billed as two and the password should be readable before anyone opens the message.

Two things are refused, and both for the same reason. You cannot remove {username} or {password} from the new-purchase message, and you cannot add a placeholder Click has no value for: either one leaves your customer holding a text they cannot log in with.

Restore default puts our wording back and appears only once you have wording of your own. Until you edit a message you are following our default, which means you also get any improvement we make to it later. Your wording is yours alone, and never affects another operator's customers.

Costs

Texts are part of the service. They are not billed to you per message and they do not come out of your balance.

If nothing is being sent at all

If SMS Logs is empty even though sales are going through, sales are completing but delivery is not; tell us, because that is our problem, not a setting on your side. In the meantime every password is readable from Find a customer, so you can keep trading.
