How Click works
Click turns a WiFi network into a business. Customers connect, buy a bundle with mobile money, and get online, without you being there.
The short version
Somebody walks into your shop, hotel or market stall and connects to your WiFi. Instead of the internet, their phone shows your login page. They pick a bundle, pay with M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money or HaloPesa, and get a text with a username and password. They type those in and they are online for as long as they paid for.
You did nothing. You were not there. The money is in your Click balance, and it goes to your mobile money number on the schedule you chose.
What you need
Three things, and you probably have two of them already.
- An internet line at the place you want to sell WiFi. Fibre, a fixed wireless link, even a good router SIM. Click does not supply this and does not care which it is.
- A router or a Click OS box. Either your own MikroTik router, or one of our appliances. Which one you have decides which manual you are reading.
- A mobile money number in your own name, to be paid on.
You do not need a static IP, a domain name, a server, or anybody who knows networking.
What Click actually does
Once your router is connected, Click runs the parts you would otherwise have to build and maintain:
- The login page customers see, branded as yours, in Swahili and English.
- Payment collection: the mobile money prompt, the confirmation, the retry when a payment fails.
- Access control: creating the customer's account, letting them online, cutting them off when their time or data runs out.
- The router itself. Click configures it, keeps it configured, and repairs it when its settings drift. You never open the router again after setup.
- Your money: what each sale earned, what Click took, and the payout to your mobile money number.
What it costs
There is no licence fee and nothing to pay upfront on the revenue-share products. Click takes 10% + TSh 20 from each sale, and TSh 150 each time money is paid out to you. In a month where you sell nothing, you pay nothing.
Click Hotel works differently: a single lifetime licence, no share of anything. See Licences and tiers.
Which product you have
| Product | You supply | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| WISP Billing | Your own MikroTik router | You already have MikroTik hardware |
| Click WISP | A Click OS appliance from us | Starting fresh, or you would rather not manage a router |
| Click Hotel | A Click OS appliance from us | Hotels and lodges: guests, not customers, and no per-sale fee |
Use the Product switcher at the top of this page to read the manual for the one you have. The account setup, the packages, the login page and the money work the same in all three.
Where to go next
Everyone starts with Create your account. Do that before you touch any hardware: the router setup cannot finish without it.
