Run the setup file
About five minutes at the router. You do this once, and never again for that router.
There are two ways. Read the first line of each and pick.
- Recommended: resets the router and sets it up cleanly. Right for a new or spare router.
- Terminal paste: changes nothing else on the router. Right when there is an existing configuration you must keep.
Recommended: reset and set up
This wipes the router's existing configuration. On a new or spare router that is exactly what you want. If this router is currently doing something you need to keep, use Terminal paste below instead, and if you are not sure, ask us before you press Reset.
1. Cable it up
Plug the internet cable into port 1. Plug your computer into any other port.
2. Open the router in a browser
Go to 192.168.88.1.
On a router that has never been set up, sign in as admin with no password. If somebody has set it up before and you do not know the password, you will need to hold the reset button while powering it on to get back to defaults.
3. Download the setup file
From the router's page in Click. It is called click-setup.rsc.
4. Put it on the router
In the left menu click Files, then drag click-setup.rsc from your downloads into the file list.
5. Run it
Go to System → Reset Configuration.
Set Run After Reset to click-setup.rsc, then press Reset Configuration. Confirm.
The router restarts.
6. Wait about two minutes
The status line on the setup window in Click turns green on its own. You do not need to press anything, and you do not need to stay at the router once it goes green.
Terminal paste: keep the existing configuration
Use this when the router already does something you need: a static route, a VPN, an existing network you cannot disturb.
- On the router's setup screen in Click, switch to the Terminal paste tab.
- Copy the whole block.
- Open the router's terminal: New Terminal in WebFig, or the Terminal button in Winbox.
- Paste it and press Enter.
It adds what Click needs and changes nothing else. It does not reset the router.
After it goes green
From now on the router's own password is the one you chose when you added it. It is on the router's page under Router details if you forget.

If it does not go green
Nothing happens after five minutes. The file probably did not run. Check under Files on the router that click-setup.rsc is still there, and that you set Run After Reset rather than just pressing Reset.
The router is reachable but Click still says Pending activation. The router cannot reach the internet. Check that the internet cable really is in port 1 and that the line itself is up; try browsing from a laptop on the same line.
You get an error about the User Manager package. This router model cannot run what Click needs. The very small MikroTik models (SMIPS, such as the hAP lite) are the usual case. You need a different router.
The file has expired. Get a fresh one with Get setup file on the router's page. The old one stops working the moment you do.
