WISP Billing / Your MikroTik router

Router health and repairs

The Technical tab on a router page. You should rarely need it, but when something is wrong, everything here is one button.

What the readouts mean

Connection: whether Click has heard from the router recently. Worked out from the last check-in, not from a stored flag, so a router that has died reads as offline rather than as whatever it last claimed.

Last checked in: the router reports roughly every minute. Anything over a few minutes means it is not reaching Click.

Offline for: how long it has been gone. Only shown when it is.

RouterOS: the version of MikroTik's own software.

Hardware: the model.

CPU load and Memory: how hard the router is working. A router permanently near the top of both is undersized for the number of customers on it.

Uptime: how long since it last restarted. An uptime that keeps resetting to minutes means the router is rebooting on its own, which is usually power.

The fix-it buttons

All three are safe to press twice.

Repair WiFi settings Puts back anything missing from the hotspot setup. This is the answer to Needs repair, and to most "it used to work" problems. It does not disconnect customers.

Update login page Sends the current design to the router. Use it if you changed your login page and the router is still showing the old one.

Restart router Drops everyone for about a minute. A last resort, and rarely the answer: if a restart fixes something, it usually comes back.

"Needs repair"

Means the router's settings no longer match what Click set up. Almost always because somebody signed into the router directly and changed something.

Press Repair WiFi settings. The flag clears itself once the router confirms.

"Keeps dropping"

The router has reconnected many times in a day.

This is nearly always the internet line or the power, not the router and not Click. Check the uplink, then the power supply; a cheap adapter under load is a common cause.

It matters more than it looks: a router that keeps dropping keeps selling bundles it cannot then deliver, and the complaints arrive hours later.

Router software updates

When Click's own software on the router is out of date you will see an update notice at the top of the router page.

Press Update now. It goes out on the next check-in, takes about a minute, nothing goes offline, no settings change, and customers already online stay online.

The router's admin password

Under Router details. This is the password for the router itself, kept so that a router nobody can sign into is a page you open rather than a site visit and a factory reset.

You can change it here. The new one is sent to the router on its next check-in.

Change history

The router page keeps a log of what Click has sent it and whether it worked. If support asks what happened on a router, this is the answer, and if a change you made never seems to have taken effect, this is where you find out whether it was sent, applied, or failed.
