Settlement accounts

The AzamPesa account your earnings are paid into. Under Settlement Accounts.

AzamPesa only

Payouts go to AzamPesa, and only AzamPesa.

That is a shorter list than the wallets your customers can pay with — they can also use M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money and HaloPesa. Paying in and being paid out are different rails, and Click sends every settlement from one company AzamPesa account.

If you do not have an AzamPesa wallet yet, there is a No AzamPesa account? link on the Settlement Accounts page with the three ways to open one, in English and Swahili.

Your account number is not your phone number

An AzamPesa account number is your phone number with the leading 0 replaced by a 1, and it is always ten digits.

If your phone is 0713020203, your AzamPesa account is 1713020203.

You enter the phone number and Click works the account number out. Both are shown on the page so you can check them against the app.

Adding one

  1. Settlement Accounts → Add settlement account.
  2. Enter the phone number the wallet is registered on.
  3. Click asks AzamPesa whose account that is, and shows you the name that comes back.
  4. If the name is yours, tick to confirm, and save.

If AzamPesa does not recognise the account, nothing is saved. That almost always means either a mistyped digit or a number with no AzamPesa wallet opened on it yet.

Why Click checks the name

A mobile money payout cannot be reversed. If Click sent your earnings to an account nobody had checked, one wrong digit would put your money permanently in a stranger's wallet, with no way to get it back.

Asking AzamPesa who owns the account catches that before any money moves, and it catches the other failure too: a number with no wallet behind it, which would accept a code happily and then refuse every payout.

The name is also what goes on the transfer, and it is the first thing support asks for if a payout goes astray.

Using more than one account

You can hold several confirmed accounts, but only one is paid to at a time. Switch which one with a single click; it takes effect from the next payout.

A payout that is already on its way cannot be redirected. Wait for it to land, then switch.

Use an account in your own name

Put your earnings on a wallet registered to you or your business. An account in an employee's name is an account you cannot claim if they leave, and AzamPesa will not move it for you.

Click pays to the name AzamPesa returned, so a mismatch is visible on the page before it is ever a problem.

When money actually moves

Click raises your payout automatically when your period comes round — weekly or monthly, whichever you are on. It is not sent at that moment.

Each payout is released by someone at Click HQ, who checks the company account can cover the batch first. So a payout sits at Processing for a while, and that is normal, not a fault. It becomes Paid only when AzamPesa confirms the money landed in your wallet.

If AzamPesa is down on a payday, HQ may settle you another way — cash or a bank transfer. The payout still closes, and the page says which method was used.

Who can do this

Owners and Sales staff can add and confirm settlement accounts. Technicians cannot see this area at all.

Only an owner can see Settlements, the actual payouts. So a Sales member can set up where money goes but cannot see how much has gone.
